Milan public transport ready for “ponte”

Two days of holiday and maybe a third.

With the feast day of Milan’s patron St Ambrose falling this year on Wednesday 7 Dec and the Feast of the Assumption the next day, many businesses will be tempted to take Friday off and make a long ponte weekend of it.

The week will also see the handwork and crafts fair at Rho from 3 to 11 Dec, and the city’s favourite Oh Bej! Oh Bej! fair at the Castello Sforzesco from 7 to 10 Dec, and the first night of the new season at La Scala on 7 Dec.

Transport authority ATM has adapted its timetables for surface and metro transport

On Wed 7, Fri 9 and Sat 10 Dec: Sat timetable across the whole network

Thursday 9 Dec: Saturday times on the metro and holiday times on buses and trams

Sunday 11 Dec: holiday timetable across the whole network

Lilac M5 metro line will operate holiday times on Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, and normal working-day times on Friday.

Starting already on Saturday 3 December, metro lines M1, M2 and M3 and bus and tram routes serving the fair locations will operate extra runs.

And during Oh Bej! Oh Bej!, these routes will be routed away from Piazza Castello: trams 4 and 9, buses 58 and 94 and night line N2. ATM advises visitors to the fair to use the metro stations at Cairoli, Cadorna, Cordusio and Lanza.

During the opening ceremony on 7 Dec at La Scala, the square will be closed to traffic and tram line 1 and bus line 61 will be routed away.

Finally, throughout the week the night lines will provide regular service, with only N6 and N94 routed a short distance away from Piazza Castello.
