17 Oct. For the 16th successive year, a group of non-profit NGOs is inviting milanesi to eat and sleep for at least one night with the homeless who sleep out on the its streets.
The outdoor programme starts at 16.00 in Piazza S. Stefano. At 17.00 in the Enzo Jannacci dormitory in Via Ortles 69, participants can see how the dormitory is organised, and have their bike repaired in the workshop set up there for the unemployed, and then cycle back to Piazza S. Stefano for the start of the evening’s live music at 18.00.
Supporters and homeless people will sit down together to the free supper, accompanied by live music and street entertainers, starting at 20.15. The evening will finish when everybody – the homeless and the supporters of the initiative – take to their sleeping bags in the S. Stefano church porch.
Earlier on Saturday 17 October, the UK-based non-profit NGO Feedback will offer a free meal to all comers in an event called Feeding the 5000, to shine a light on the global food waste scandal. The food will be prepared by Michelin-starred chef Marco Sacco, with the help of 100 cooks, entirely from fresh, quality raw materials which otherwise would have gone to waste.
The festive event is open to all to bring attention the scandal of food waste and prove that win-win solutions to the problem really do exist.
Feeding the 5000 will run from 12.00 to 17.00 in Milan’s central Piazza Castello.
More details of the day’s activities are on the dedicated Facebook page.
