59th World Press Photo exhibit in Milan

7 May-5 June. Best pictures of the past year.

A free exhibition of the best press photos taken in 2015 opens this weekend in Milan at Galleria Carla Sozzani

All 41 prize-winning shots (including two by Italian photographers) are in the exhibit, which has attracted some 3 million viewers in 45 countries.

The winning shot by Australian freelance Warren Richardson shows a Syrian refugee smuggling his child under a barrier between Serbia and Hungary in August 2015. The photographer spent days hiding with the refugees, dodging the police, to get this picture.

A conference by Richardson, hosted by Milan’s European Institute of Design (IED) in their premises in Via Sciesa 4 (NB: not the location of the exhibition) will offer an opportunity to meet him and discuss his work on the day before the exhibit opens, at 15.30 on Friday.

Open every day except Friday, and on Wednesdays and Thursdays until 21.00, the exhibition will run from Saturday 7 May until 5 June.
