12 Feb-21 Mar 2009. The Genovese sculptor and painter Alfonso Bonavita returns to Milan with a cycle of eight sculptures and about 12 paintings dedicated to athletics and sports. His bronzes express pathos and emotion, while his paintings focus on movement, form and the symbolic value of physical effort. Bonavita portrays a swimmer preparing for a night-time competition in the open sea and an athlete getting ready to throw a weight. Life for Bonavita is a journey full of trials, the outcome of which is determined not just by our will but also by external powers. His works challenge the culture of superficial images that have lost touch with interior thought and power.
