American football championships

American football got off to an encouraging start for the hosts in the European group B championships in Milan on Saturday. Italy beat Spain 55-7, raising hopes for promotion into Group A. Milan’s home squad, the Rhinos, is particularly happy at having 11 players on the national team.

Earlier in the day, Denmark had beaten Serbia 38-10. The tournament in Milan’s Vigorelli stadium will last through until the finals on Saturday 7 September.

The next fixtures are: Monday 16.30 Serbia v. Czech Republic, 21.00 Britain v. Spain, and on Wednesday 16.30 Czech Republic v. Demark, 21.00 Italy v. Britain. On Saturday, the final for 5th and 6th place will be played at 10.00, for 3rd and 4th place at 14.00, and for 1st and 2nd place at 18.00.

A subscription for the whole tournament costs €50. A one-day ticket for both matches (or for all three finals) costs €20, reduced to €10 for under-18s and over-60s.
