First Women Exhibition

17 Dec-31 Mar. This exhibition, entitled First Women, pays homage to the female heroes of Giacomo Puccini.

Over 40 international students from the Academy of Teatro alla Scala, guided by Maria Chiara Donato, have worked for several years on the accurate reconstruction of the historical costumes of Puccini’s women. The exhibition displays the sketches, designed by Adolf Hohenstein for the first representations of Puccini’s operas, including Manon Lescaut (1893), La Bohème (1896) and Tosca (1900), which are kept in the theatre’s archives.

The scene costumes of Magda, Minnie, the nun Angelica, Madam Butterfly and Princess Turandot have been carefully restored. The costumes have been subsequently photographed by the students of the academy’s course for scene photographers. This exhibition highlights the tradition of Italian crafts and the excellence of the Made in Italy brand and the professionalism of young Italian artists.
