The Tarots of Bembo

20 Feb-7 Apr. For the series The Hidden Treasures of Brera, the famous Pinacoteca displays an ancient Italian tarot deck of cards, which consists of 48 hand painted tarots, named after its creator Bonifacio Bembo.

Bembo, who owned a shop in Cremona, designed these cards around 1442 for the Duke of Milan Filippo Maria Visconti. The exhibition displays the artistic production of the Bembo family, which was active for over 40 years in the Milanese court, as well as in the main courts in the Emilia-Romagna region.

Besides the tarot deck it displays several paintings, tables and frescos, to illustratae the cultural context of the Italian courts of the 15th century.
