Preview of trees for Expo 2015
A wood which appeared overnight at the beginning of October on the Piazza del Castello next to Milan’s iconic Sforza castle will be officially presented to the public with a “party in the woods” on Sunday 12 October at 16.30.
The spinney of 24 trees over an area of 200 sqm contains a selection of the species which will adorn the spaces between the pavilions of next year’s Expo 2015. They are between 4 and 12 metres high and aged between 10 and 35 years. They include Turkey oak, English oak, ash, poplar, hornbeam, cherry, wild pear, maple and white ash. Each tree carries a sign explaining its name, its history, information about the species and details of where it will be planted.
Planted in a new type of container called “air pot” which protects them during transport, the trees are samples of the various species being brought to the Rho fairgrounds. These samples have been rerouted via the Expo Gate in the city centre to give milanesi an opportunity of a preview, before they continue to their destination on 2 November.
In the neighbouring Expo Gate info point, a video will explain the work being done to prepare the landscape for the opening of the exposition. To finish the official presentation, a tea party in the woods with fruit cakes and cups of tea. Entry to the party in the woods is free.
