Census of Milan residents starts on 1 October

12,400 Milan households required to answer census questions.

Monday 1 October will see the start of the census of a sample of Milan residents by national statistical institute Istat, boosted this year to an annual survey and no longer every 10 years.

Some 12,400 households will be required to make the obligatory returns, 3,400 of them through personal interviews at home and another around 9,000 online.

The first group, known as the Areale, will be contacted by interviewers employed by Milan city hall, showing an ID card with photograph and bearing a letter of accreditation. The interviewers will ask the questions and fill in the report form.

The second group, known as Lista, selected at random from city registry office records, will receive a letter explaining how to reply to the census questionnaire online.

All the data collected during the census are protected under the current privacy laws.

Anyone unsure of their rights or duties in connection with the census is invited to contact the toll-free number 800 468 800 for clarification, or to send an email query to info.censimento@comune.milano.it
