Dolphins swim in Venice Grand Canal
New video footage of a pair of dolphins swimming in the Grand Canal in Venice has surfaced on social media.
The video clip was reportedly made this morning, 22 March, in front of the city's Punta della Dogana customs house where the Grand Canal meets the Giudecca Canal.
The news is being reported by Italy's newspaper of record, Corriere della Sera, and local newspaper La Nuova Venezia, and has been shared on Twitter by Venezia Pulita / Clean Venice.
Last year, shortly after Italy imposed a nationwide covid-19 lockdown, there were false reports of dolphins swimming in Venice's canals, devoid of their usual busy traffic.
The video was in fact made in the harbour at Cagliari. The footage of the dolphins this time, however, appears to be genuine.
