Expo 2015: one year to go

Party in Milan to celebrate the countdown

As the one-year countdown to Expo 2015 starts, a party in Milan’s Piazza Gae Aulenti on Wednesday 30 April will celebrate with tenor Andrea Bocelli and the 60 musicians of the RAI orchestra conducted by Antonella Clerici.

While the party goes live on RAI1, partygoers can weigh themselves on the 10 sets of scales installed around the square, and the total weight of the audience will be donated in food by Coop supermarket chain and Eataly temple of fine foods, who will gift it to the Banco Alimentare charity organisation.

Chef Davide Oldiani, educator Don Gino Rigoldi, Expo ambassador Enrico Bertolino, food and forestry minister Maurizio Martina, Expo commissioner Giuseppe Sala and Italy pavilion manager Diana Bracco will be joined on stage by Milan mayor Giuliano Pisapia and Lombardy regional President Roberto Maroni.

Speakers will explain what has been achieved up to now, and what is planned for the run-up to Expo on 1 May next year. The guests of honour will be the public, say the organisers. Residents and tourists will be made welcome, will meet Expo mascot Foodie, and will be invited to take away gadgets and information. Download the invitation on this page.
