Milan urban transport free for 1,000
Following on the success of last year’s initiative, Milan city hall will again spend €215,000 to buy almost 1,000 annual ATM season tickets for metro and bus lines to give to the needy, in particular jobseekers, in 2015.
“Milano viaggia con te” (Milan is travelling with you) is the name of the scheme announced by councillor Cristina Tajani. Details of how to request the travel cards will be published shortly on the city hall website, she promised.
The initiative will be open to Italian citizens resident in Milan, nationals of other EU states registered in the Milan anagrafe lists, and holders of a valid residence permit (permesso di soggiorno) for other nationals. Unemployed jobseekers must hold a declaration of immediate availablity for work, issued by a centro d’Impiego in Milan province. Occasional workers (precari) aged between 18 and 35 holding a work contract in the categories tempo determinato, a progetto, di inserimento or apprendistato will also be entited to apply, as will holders of a university scholarship with an income of less than €20,000 on the ISEE scale.
The season-tickets will be given out “first come, first served” as long as funds are still available. But applicants who meet the requirements but were unable to obtain a free season-ticket last year will have fast-track treatment, said Tajani.
