Discover Milan's gardens and allotments.
A long weekend dedicated to nature in the city environment starts in Milan on Friday 13 May.
Following on the success of last autumn’s first Green City programme, this new festival includes discovering hidden surprises, attending presentations, conferences and lectures, practical workshops, bike routes, exhibitions, guided tours and kids’ activities.
The weekend opens on Friday at 14.00 with a flower market at BASE Milano in Via Bergognone 34, the former train and tram factory converted by the city council into a cultural and co-working centre, with a musical aperitivo to follow.
The closing event at 17.45 on Sunday will be the collective sowing of lawn and flowers in a previously abandoned area, and its official opening as the Martesana-Sammartini public park – a symbolic ceremony to prove that “Nature can be brought into the City” – this year’s leitmotif.
Throughout the programme, a fleet of Apecar tuktuks will patrol Milan’s streets with information leaflets on the weekend’s appointments. An info point will also be open at Expo Gate, near the Castello Sforzesco.
