Timed to coincide with COP24 in Katowice.
Milan members of the Green party and Greenpeace activists are inviting to a #Greenwave flash-mob demo in Milan on 8 December on the occasion of the COP24 Climate Change Conference being held in Katowice, Poland.
The object is to focus public attention on the critical problem of climate-change.
“This is a crucial moment for all of us,” said Jennifer Morgan, executive director of Greenpeace International. “The world leaders in Katowice must look each other in the face and declare that they are on our side. Governments must act at COP24, undertaking to align their national climate plans by 2020 with the objective of keeping the rise in [world atmospheric] temperature under 1.5°C.”
The initiative follows similar demonstrations in Iceland, Germany, the Netherlands and Australia.
Starting at 16.00 in Piazza S. Babila, a banner in green silk, 20 metres long and nine wide, will move through the streets of Milan’s pedestrian shopping area, filling the streets from side to side and inviting passers-by to join in the procession. Videos will be shot above and below the banner for distribution on social media.
The organisers say they have already been invited by activists in Florence and Reggio Calabria to produce similar flash-mob events there.
