Irish pavilion at Expo 2015

President Higgins launches Origin Green.

Irish president Michael D. Higgins will inaugurate Ireland's pavilion at Expo 2015, on 16 June, coinciding with Bloomsday, the international celebration of Dublin writer James Joyce and his novel Ulysses.

Titled Origin Green, Ireland's pavilion highlights food security, food distribution, healthy nutrition, energy, sustainability and smart cities, in line with the central theme of Expo 2015: Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life.

Visitors to the pavilion, which opened on 4 May, will learn about Ireland's history, cuisine and culture, as well as its agiculture and fishing industries. The country's fertile and rugged landscape is also illustrated through the exhibition Wild Atlantic Way.

Organisers describe Origin Green as “Ireland’s commitment to harnessing science and technology for sustainable and socially-conscious food and drink production, increasing efficiency and avoiding waste.”

On 17 June an Italian translation of President Higgin’s poems, Il Tradimento e Poesie (Poems and Betrayal), will be launched at Ireland's embassy to Italy in Rome's Villa Spada. During his time in the capital Higgins will meet Italian president Sergio Mattarella.
