Italy pavilion in Expo Milan wins top prize

Excellence Award and best in Decorative Concrete category.

The Italy pavilion at last year’s Expo Milan 2015 has been awarded the prestigious top award in the annual ranking by ACI, the American Concrete Institute.

The pavilion was first elected top in the “Decorative Concrete” category – one of six branches of the annual judging – and then picked out for this year’s top place overall, the Excellence Award.

Palazzo Italia was one of the pavilions attracting the highest number of visitors in last year’s Expo Milan 2015. The quality of the visit experience was consistently praised in visitor surveys carried out during the exposition. It is now among the structures kept in place in the former Expo grounds for cultural and free-time activities.

The ACI is an authoritative non-profit technical association, founded in 1904 to develop and disseminate consensus-based standards for concrete and the construction industry.

The annual awards were created to honour the visions of the most creative projects in the concrete industry, while providing a platform to recognize concrete innovation, technology, and excellence across the globe, said the organisers.

Palazzo Italia was submitted by the ACI Italy Chapter. Eleven other projects around the world were also praised during the gala event held at The Concrete Convention and Exposition in Philadelphia, PA, USA.

Palazzo Italia was constructed by Gruppo Styl-Comp, based in Bergamo province, using a special biodynamic concrete developed by Italcementi.
