M5 Lilac metro closure for works

Milan’s brand-new M5 “lilac line” will not run on the weekends of 27-28 July and 3-4 August.

Passengers will need to use tram line 31 from Zara to Piazzale Lagosta, or line 7 between Zara and Bicocca instead.

The closure is needed for finishing off the new station Isola and for making the connection to line M2 at Garibaldi station, as the extension of the new line continues.

The work has been scheduled for weekends to avoid disturbance for commuters during the working week. Transit authority ATM warns that further closures may be necessary if the work takes longer than planned, so regular users are advised to watch for closure warnings later down the month of August.
