Metro M1 stations to close

Five weeks of “urgent” maintenance

Milan’s transport authority ATM has announced that stations Pero and Rho-Fiera on the red M1 line will be closed from next Monday, 9 June, to 13 July for “urgent” maintenance and modernisation.

For the duration of the work, a substitute bus service will run from Molino Dorino, the temporary terminus. But ATM warns that this service might suffer delays because of work on the cycle track.

Alternatively, ATM recommends using the “passante ferroviario” lines S5 or S6, or the Trenord regional service. The infographic provided by ATM illustrates these alternatives.

Season-ticket holders will be allowed to use their subscription on these alternative services instead of buying a separate ticket. For single journeys without a season-ticket, the usual €2.10 ticket to Rho-Fiera will also be valid.

The advisory on the ATM website states that the work could not be put off, because it is essential for handling the extra passenger traffic expected in view of Expo 2015. The period was chosen to coincide with a pause in activity at the trade fair and the end of the school year.

ATM also points out that the car-park at Molino Dorino station will be open from 06.00 to 01.00, while another in nearby Via Falk will be open 24 houirs a day, every day.
