Tickets sold to support charitable causes.
Milan city hall will once again sell its tickets for the opening night of La Scala’s 2016/17 winter session and devolve the proceeds to the needy.
The season will open on 7 December with Puccini’s Madama Butterfly under the baton of Riccardo Chailly. Following the tradition of the past five years, the block of seats provided by the opera house for city officials will be made available to the public.
The initiative "La Scala della solidarietà" has already raised some €860,000 for charity from Milanese who have supported the venture by watching Verdi’s Giovanna d'Arco, Beethoven’s Fidelio, Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Wagner’s Lohengrin and Verdi’s La Traviata.
Charity-minded opera buffs can book their tickets on 7 December, starting at 12.00, on the home page of the La Scala website.
