Milan inaugurates the Christmas season with LED, Light Exhibition Design, the first international festival dedicated to light installations in the city.

Until 10 January 2010 over 80 km of streets, squares, parks and monuments in the centre and the suburbs are illuminated by 40 installations in Liberty style, created for the occasion by talented young artists and pupils of the most important Milanese art schools in homage to the last Expo held in Milan in 1906 and in view of Expo 2015.

The initiative combines environmental sustainability and creativity; all installations use light-emitting diodes (LEDs), which last longer and cost less than traditional incandescent light bulbs. The designs are the result of more than a year of international public competitions and include contributions by Michele De Chucchi, who has created illuminated spires that recall the Duomo on the building of Milan
