Milan cyclists head for Lake Maggiore – in the dark

16-17 Sept. Bike Night with up to 1,000 riders.

The night from 16 to 17 September will see up to a thousand cycling enthusiasts of every level set out from Milan to reach Arona, a distance of nearly 100 kilometres.

In 2016, the first edition in Milan saw some 500 cyclists cross the city from Piazza Duomo at night, and then set off in the dark along the Navigli bike tracks to Lake Maggiore.

So much enthusiasm was generated that the organizers have planned a second event with up to 1,000 places available (numbers are restricted for safety reasons).

This year’s run starts from the recently restored Piazza Leonardo at midnight, passes through Piazza Duomo under the Madonnina, and dives into Milan’s night following the Naviglio Grande as far as the Ticino by Sesto Calende.

Registered riders can have their luggage taken from the starting point in Piazza Leonardo to be waiting for them on arrival.  Rescue cars will be on stand-by along the 90 km route, and return transport for bikes and riders back to Milan is available.

Details of gadgets available, equipment hire, refreshment points and more are on the Bike Night website.
