Commissioner Sala: a realistic estimate

Expo 2015 commissioner Giuseppe Sala has revealed that a “realistic estimate” of tourism turnover from Expo 2015 is expected to reach €5 billion.

With just under 100 days until the opening ceremony, Sala said that the figure was based on the 20 million visitors now expected to visit Milan and Italy during the exposition. "This is the number I like most, along with that of investment by participating countries of around one billion euros, 90 per cent of which will go to Italian businesses," Sala said.

Asked about what will happen to the site after Expo 2015 closes its doors on 31 October, Sala said that at present the plan is to dismantle the structures by the middle of 2016. “But before that I think plans will be proposed to see that the area is not abandoned, “ he added.
