16-18 Nov. The driving force behind a prosperous Europe.
The issues that cities face on a daily basis, from air pollution and waste management to creating quality jobs and managing social cohesion are the focus of the 30th anniversary edition of the Eurocities conference in Milan from 16-18 Nov. The theme of the conference this year is "Sharing Cities".
The initiative brings together local governments of 139 of Europe’s largest cities and 40 partner cities that between them govern over 130 million citizens across 39 countries.
Three days of round tables, debate and exchange of best practice will cover issues addressed by the EU’s strategic priorities. The concept will centre around the ‘Pact of Amsterdam’, launched in May to establish an urban agenda for the EU and to involve cities in EU policy development and implementation. It is becoming increasingly clear that cities are instrumental in building a stronger Europe that is closer to its citizens, say the speakers at this year’s event.
The organisers say European cities have been demonstrating their leadership in the face of a number of European challenges, including Brexit, the refugee situation and the employment crisis.
The round table at the centre of the conference aims to understand to what extent cities have the competences to intervene in the legislative framework of new business models in the sharing economy.
The event takes place in Milan’s Fabbrica del Vapore in Via Giulio Cesare Procaccini.
