Milan mayor Sala awarded Légion d’Honneur

Ceremony at the French Embassy in Rome.

Mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala is to be awarded the rank of officer in the Légion d’Honneur, the highest French order for military and civil merits.

Although principally awarded to French nationals, the Légion d’Honneur is also extended to include foreign nationals who serve France or the ideals the French republic upholds.

The ceremony is to take place in Palazzo Farnese, the embassy of the French republic in Rome, on Saturday 10 December. The honour will be conferred by the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo.

The announcement was made by the two mayors during the C40 Climate Group summit in Mexico last week which both were attending, representing their cities.

Previous mayor Giuliano Pisapia was awarded the same honour in February 2014.
