Milan open for business in August

City hall draws up interactive map.

As the traditional holiday period draws near, Milan’s municipal council is inviting businesses and services of all types to provide their contact details and opening hours for August.

The information will be published by the end of the month on an interactive map, where residents and tourists can quickly find the nearest dentist, greengrocer, cobbler, vet, bookshop or any other kind of activity which has not pulled down the shutters – or even events organised just because the city is running at half speed.

City hall is cooperating with trade associations, professional orders and consumer associations to put out the word to every category of activity and encourage them to provide the precious information. It is being entered on an interactive online map on the city’s Fareimpresa website.

The object, says city councillor Cristina Tajani, is to “simplify the life of the many Milanese and visitors in a period like summer which is often problematic as many commercial activities and services shut down. We shall provide a simple and intuitive instrument to promote the city and help people find whatever they need for shopping, free time or cultural opportunities.”
