Bids to be in by 31 December.
Milan city hall is inviting bids from companies wishing to sponsor the green areas in the central Piazza del Duomo, adjoining Milan’s iconic cathedral and the Vittorio Emanuele Gallery.
The winning sponsor will be required to take on the maintenance of the piazza’s green areas for a maximum of three years. In return, the company’s name and logo will be displayed only a few metres from what is probably the city spot most visited by Italian and foreign tourists.
The gardens may be left and maintained exactly as they are at the moment. Alternatively, the prospective sponsor may suggest a new layout, as long as it respects a series of rules, both practical – such as respecting the ventilation grilles of the metro station beneath – and aesthetic.
City hall will provide an autocad CD-ROM for sponsors to submit their suggestions if they wish to propose a new layout.
