For Expo Milan 2015 visitors to the city.
The city administration is looking for Milan residents who know their city well and who speak at least one foreign language to sign up as volunteer guides for visitors.
The guides can take part in the project while travelling to or from their usual employment, or going out in the evening with friends, or taking their kids to the park, say the organisers. They will simply wear a pin indicating which languages they speak, and be prepared to be stopped and asked for information.
Volunteers can sign up on the Energy for Milan website. They will then be invited for a chat in the comune to explain the scheme, collect their lapel pin, and pick up a wealth of helpful information, including a link to a constantly updated site which they can contact by smartphone.
Over 30 volunteers have already joined the community, with a mean age of around 46 years. The project is expected to last throughout the opening of Expo Milan 2015.
