Milan supermarkets to strike

Milan to face shopping problems.

Sales personnel of Italy’s main supermarket chains have declared two Saturdays of industrial action, on 7 and 19 November.

Supermarkets across Italy will be closed unless a last-minute move by employers defuses the situation.

The strike will also hit shopping malls, co-op outlets and those individual shops allied to the Federdistribuzione union.

Union members are protesting about two years of unsuccessful negotiations for the renewal of their contract,

Together with two other major union groups, they complain that the best – but unacceptable – offer they have had from employers is to postpone a review of the contract until 2016/2018.
