Milan is to ban smoking this autumn near children’s playgrounds situated in public parks. Notices have already gone up in many the city’s 70 parks requesting the public not to smoke in areas where children play. However the ban will not become fully operative until September or October.
Milan is following the example of Naples, Verona and Bolzano, which already prohibit smoking in playgrounds to protect the health of children.
In Milan 50 per cent of people between the ages of 15 and 25 smoke.
