The stretch of Via Brera in front of the historic Palazzo di Brera, seat of the art gallery and academy of fine arts, is to be pedestrianised as part of plans to promote the area as a key cultural and tourist attraction in the city.
The works include closing to traffic the 300 m of road running between Via del Carmine and Via Pontaccio, repaving it and planting six trees in front of the academy. The executive plans are almost ready but will need the green light from the environmental superintendent and the landscape commission before work can begin. If all goes to plan, the restyling should start by the end of September and be completed in early 2011.
The plans follow the pedestrianisation of Via Fiori Chiari, Via Fiori Oscuri, Via Madonnina and Piazza del Carmine and pave the way for the restyling of Via Dell
