NBA store to open in Milan

Another US legend, following Apple and Starbucks.

The first in Europe and only the fourth outside the US, the National Basketball Association is to open a new store less than 10 minutes’ walk from Milan’s Duomo on 14 December.

The three-storey design will reflect that of the “mother house” at 545 Fifth Avenue in New York (pictured).

Basketball enthusiasts will be able to browse clothing, equipment and gadgets in time for Christmas shopping, says the NBA.

NBA officials say the decision was taken on the back of an increased boost of interest in basketball and in official NBA products and merchandising.

The location in the Galleria Passarella will place the newcomer close to other sport and outdoor activity outlets such as the Juventus store, the AC Milan Store and the North Face and Timberland shops.

The NBA will open the store in partnership with EPI, a company specialised in the management of official online stores operated by teams such as Juventus, Milan, Lazio, and Inter.

The NBA Fan Zone, an event arranged every summer by the league in Milan, is one of the regular appointments of the NBA off-season overseas, with thousands of fans always attending the event and several NBA legends becoming the star of the day.
