New kids’ park opens in Milan

21 April. Milan launches community foundation.

Mayor Beppe Sala will open a new play area in central Milan on Saturday morning, designed to meet the needs of children with disabilities.

Swings, roundabouts and other play equipment have been installed with a view to letting children with or without disabilities play together and overcome the culture of division.

The play area, in Milan’s central Montanelli Park, is the first project of the newly-launched Milan Community Foundation, set up with the collaboration of Cariplo bank along the lines of similar initiatives which are already common in the United States.

The foundation will promote community projects in 56 comuni surrounding Milan. The concept is to pool private, public and philanthropic donations to finance development initiatives to improve the residents’ quality of life.

The opening ceremony will be at 11.00, and the park will remain open with a first-day programme of kids’ entertainment until 16.30.
