New ZTL near Darsena

Via Vigevano off limits at weekends.

Milan city hall has announced a new weekend ZTL (limited traffic zone) for the whole length of Via Vigevano, from Porta Genova station to Viale Gorizia, from 3 July to 9 November.

Throughout the summer, this popular street near the Darsena, with numerous shops, bars and restaurants, will be closed to all but residents and public transport from 19.00 on Fridays until 03.00 on Mondays.

The street, say city authorities, is already packed with pedestrians by day and night, and the recent restyling of the Darsena has added to the crush. The new rule amounts to an extension of the existing pedestrian area and nighttime ZTL, best known for its movida or night-life.

A the same time, two new traffic-free stretches have been added to the complex of pedestrian-friendly streets in this area: the south bank of the Naviglio Grande canal, and the first half of Via Gola from the Naviglio Pavese. And Via Fumagalli, closed to private traffic up to now only from 20.00 to 07.00, will now be off limits all day and night.

On the other hand, to allow vehicles to exit the area, the ZTL in Via Borsi and Via Pichi, on the very southern edge of the popular zone has been revoked

A map published on the city website illustrates the old and new rules.
