Pollution brings new traffic, heating limitations

A ten-day rise in the PM10 (particulate matter) levels has triggered new traffic limitations in Milan and the surrounding comuni, starting on Tuesday 27 November.  The limitations will remain in force until three consecutive days have passed with the measurements dropping below the permitted level.

In addition to limitations already in force, these are the new restrictions:

- diesel Euro3 vehicles without fine particle filters are banned from 08.30 – 18.00 (private vehicles) and from 07.30 to 10.00 (commercial)

- central heating temperatures must be reduced from 20 to 19°C, and operation from 14 to 12 hours daily.

Milan town hall also advises motorists that spot-checks on vehicles will be intensified, with the deployment of equipment to measure the level of pollution of their exhaust gases.
