A strike by maintenance and on-board staff will hit rail travellers, particularly in and around Milan, on Friday 18 January from 09.00 to 17.00.
Trenitalia’s long-distant services will suffer only a partial stoppage, with many trains guaranteed. Updated information will be available on the Trenitalia website or on the toll-free number 892021. But the regional routes covered by Milan-based Trenord will come to a total standstill. The only Trenord lines substituted by a bus service will be the shuttles between Malpensa airport and Milan: check the timetables, or call the toll-free number 800500005.
The buses wil run between Malpensa airport and Milan Cadorna station (via Paleòcapa), departing every half-hour in each direction from 09.00 until 17.00. And another service will run between the airport and Milan Porta Garibaldi (in front of the station), departing every hour from 09.00 to 16.30 in each direction.
With severe weather and possibly snow already forecast for Friday, passengers travelling to and from Malpensa on the substitute bus lines are advised to add a generous safety margin to the 50-km trip.
Workers are protesting against the government’s austerity measures, and over delays in the renewal of their contract.
