World Press Photo. Photography and Journalism: the images awarded in 2008.

4-25 May 2008. The Carla Sozzani Gallery and the Museo di Roma in Trastevere host the Italian stops of the world tour of World Press Photo (WPP) 2008, an exhibition that presents the winning images of ten thematic categories. Since 1955 a jury of experts meets to value the images sent to the World Press Photo Foundation of Amsterdam and examines thousands of pictures from all over the world from photo-journalists, agencies, newspapers and magazines. On this occasion the best images are selected for the WPP award, which is one of the prestigious awards in the world of photo-reporting. The winning shots are finally inserted in the prestigious catalogue and displayed in galleries and museums all around the world.

In this edition 5,019 photographers from 125 countries participated in the WPP competition and sent in 80,536 images. In the final selection 59 photographers from 23 countries were awarded. This international event, which is this year at the 51st edition, gives the viewers the chance to see the best and most representative images, which have followed, documented and illustrated last year
