Milan’s popular BikeMI bike rental and sharing service has added three new stations to the network, bringing the total to 173.
The new stations are Sraffa (outside 13 Via Castelbarco), S.Gottardo-Gentilino (1 Via Gentilino) and Friuli-Comelico (50 Via Friuli), each with 36 slots. This extension brings the total to over 3,000 bikes now available.
BikeMi is not just a simple bike rental service but a real public bicycle transport system, to be used for short trips supplemented by traditional ATM surface or underground public transport.
BikeMi stations are located in strategic points all over the city: train stations and universities, hospitals and tourist attractions, underground stations, administrative offices, malls and parking lots. The concept is to allow all registered users to pick up a bike, ride it and leave it at the station closest to their destination.
A map on the BikeMI website shows the exact location of each station, and a real-time count of the number of bikes available at each one. And there is a helpful User Guide to explain how to use the system.
Membership (for over-16s only) costs €36 for the annual, €6 for the weekly and €2.50 for the one-day subscription. The first 30 minutes use of the bike are free; after that, a further half-hour or fraction costs €0.50, and another hour or fraction €2.00. The service is available 365 days a year from 07.00 to midnight.
Annual or temporary (monthly, daily) subscriptions can be opened on the website. In addition, you can subscribe at the ATM points in five central metro stations: Duomo (M1-M3), Cadorna (M1-M2) , Loreto (M1-M2), Romolo (M2), Centrale FS (M2-M3) and Garibaldi FS (M2) from Monday to Saturday, 07.45 to 19.15, or by calling the ATM toll-free number 800 80 81 81.
