12 January-23 February 2012. This exhibition, entitled Consciousness and Portraits Of Sacrifice, brings together a series of works by the former model and emerging American artist, Anthony James.
James fuses technical accuracy, repeatability and the spectacular and reveals the influence of Pop and Minimalism on contemporary art and culture.
He re-elaborates the visual languages of late Modernism (with references to Piet Mondrian, Andy Warhol, Donald Judd and Dan Flavin) and experiments with various means, such as highly refined steel structures, mysterious casting investments created with the help of computers, crude drawings composed by neon tubes, nickel plated mechanisms as well as intimate oil paintings.
In his latest creations, James encloses among the others virgin birch wood forests in minimalist showcases, which expand to the infinity thanks to a mirrors play and place viewers in a distant and unnatural space.
