Bookcity Milan opens 22 October

Earlier this year to catch Expo visitors.

Bookcity Milan runs earlier than usual, from Thursday 22 to Sunday 25 October, while visitors to Expo Milan 2015 are still in the city.

The festival, with 878 initiatives all around Milan, will award Chilean-American author Isabel Allende the seal of the city in a ceremony in the ex-Ansaldo building in Via Tortora at 20.00 on Thursday.

Among the other international guests are the Nobel prizewinner Herta Müller, Jonas Jonasson, Hape Kerkeling, Maria Tatsos, Björn Larsson and Luis Sepúlveda.

The focal centre of the festival is Castello Sforzesco, where over 900 books launched during Bookcity Milan will be on sale.

Other events take place in libraries, bookshops and other locations both unusual and prestigious.

The festival website gives full details of all the events, mostly free as long as space is available.
