Cats and dogs invite animal-lovers in Milan

25 Nov. Celebrating 10 years of Milan’s pet refuge.

The cats and dogs living in Milan’s Parco Canile are inviting visitors – especially kids – to visit the pound on 25 November and help them celebrate the first ten years of the city refuge, from 14.00 to 17.30.

Visitors will be welcome to pet the “inmates” and make friends. The staff will organise games to teach younger animal-lovers the right way to approach and relate to unfamiliar animals.

There will be a display of “athletics” by dogs who have been trained by the staff, and the afternoon will close with a catwalk of four-legged friends hoping to be adopted. At present there are over 150 dogs and some 120 cats longing for a new home.

The refuge, which at one point risked closing for flood damage, was saved by contributions from the public and is now fully operational again. It is located in Via Aquila 81, just a few minutes’ walk from the Via Corelli stop on bus line 38.
