Classical woodcuts at Milan’s Sforza Castle

27 Feb – 10 Apr Works by Schialvino and Verna.

On show at the Sforza Castle, 16 large woodcuts by two undisputed masters of the art, Gianfranco Schialvino and Gianni Verna, will tell the story of 30 years of the Nuova Xylografia movement with illustrations of mythical or wild animals and Italian landscapes, inspired by the poetry of Montale and D’Annunzio.

The exhibition will also include pages taken from the art magazine Smems, founded by the two artists in 1997 and printed with traditional methods: a manual press, lead slugs for the text and illustrations produced from relief matrices.

A detailed guide to the exhibit will shortly be on line.
