10 June. La Scala Philharmonic with Chailly.
One of the most eagerly awaited appointments in the classical music calendar, this year’s “Concert for Milan” will open the summer concert season on Sunday 10 June.
Riccardo Chailly will conduct the Filarmonica della Scala with two popular Russian works, starting at 21.30 in the square in front of Milan’s Duomo, with no entry charge.
Tchaikovsky’s Concert No. 1 will open the evening, with guest soloist Denis Matsuev at the piano. The Philharmonic will also offer Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition in the orchestral version arranged by Maurice Ravel.
The concert will be broadcast live in HD on RAI 5, RaiPlay and RAI Radio 3, as well as in France, Greece and Korea, and later in Slovenia, Hungary, Japan and China.
Regional rail service Trenord is offering a special day pass at €13 from any station on their network to help concertgoers from outside the city.
Milan authorities advises that the square will be subject to security checks, that glass containers will not be permitted and that it is not recommended to bring back-packs.
