24-25 March 2012. The famous Milanese church of S. Marco, located in the very central Brera district, hosts on its porch and in its cloister this year’s Spring edition of Floralia, a famous charity sale.
The sale’s proceeds go to the Onlus Centro S. Marco, which hosts 15 disadvantaged and homeless people.
On display will be thousands of vegetable plants as well as sunflowers, garden orchids, mini wisteria, ferns, poppies, bulbs, cactus, ornamental sages, roses and many other flowers. This year’s novelty is a collectors’ corner, which displays rare plants, colourful hammocks, pieces of furniture and other garden objects made of ecological materials. In the internal cloisters, jewels, linens, hats, children’s clothes, vintage women’s clothes, books, ceramics and many other interesting items will be displayed. The botanist Pietro Bruni will accompany visitors through the stands to explain and recommend the most suitable plants for your gardens and terraces. Jolanda de Nola, producer of organic olive oil and professional taster, will teach how to appreciate and distinguish good oil.
On Saturday and Sunday at 16.00 two lessons will be held on the terraces exposed to full sun and Spring garden works. Sunday at 16.30 there will be a concert by the Coral Academy of Lecco.
Floralia’s organizers are collecting old toys, which are no longer used and occupy useless space. Toys can be donated and dropped off from Monday to Saturday (11.00-18.00) at a small No Profit store, located in Via San Marco 2, Milan, tel. 02 29000772.
