17 June-12 September 2010. his exhibition displays two series of photographs: Private Lives by the Dutch photographer Erwin Olaf, known for his advertising campaigns for brands such as Diesel Jeans, Lavazza, BMW, Microsoft and Heineken; and On the Scene by the Russian-American Phil Stern.
Olaf presents some of his latest projects, Rain, Hope, Grief, Fall, Dawn and Dusk and Hotel, which blend journalistic reportages and posed portraits to tell a compelling story. He privileges the private dimension of life such as house interiors, silent conversations, looks and atmospheres that are often inspired by movies from the 1950s.
Stern is a master of reportages in black and white. He has immortalised many famous Hollywood personalities including James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra. His pictures have an unmistakable style which mixes irony and detachment, admiration and empathy for his subjects.
