7 Dec 2009-8 March 2010. This major exhibition displays over 200 masterworks from the most prestigious Japanese museums including the Tokyo National Museum, the Kyoto National Museum and the Osaka Municipal Museum of Art. On display are large screens, vertical and horizontal painted paper or silk scrolls, precious lacquers and ceramics, weapons, clothes and masks, which tell of the transformation of Japan into a modern state. The works have never been displayed in Italy before.
The paintings portray the natural environment and the cities of Japan, the power and tradition, the applied arts and the first relations with the West.
The exhibition closes the initiative Japan in Milan, through which over the past year Milan has paid tribute to the Land of the Rising Sun with events, exhibitions, meetings, conferences, concerts and film screenings.
