A few discounted tickets left
Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, better known as Lady Gaga, will give a one-night concert at the Mediolanum Forum on Tuesday 4 November, and a few tickets at discount prices were still available as this article went to press.
The US singer-songwriter of Italian extraction was influenced by pop artists of the 1980s such as Madonna and Michael Jackson, and glam rock performers like David Bowie and Queen. In fact her stage name was inspired by Queen’s Radio Ga Ga.
She launched her career on the Interscope label with her 2008 album The Fame, and re-issued it a year later with some new tracks under the title The Fame Monster. In 2011 came the album Born This Way. In her first three years of career, Lady Gaga has racked up sales of over 23 million albums and 64 million singles. Billboard magazine ranks her as the 73rd best artist of the first decade of the new century.
Aside from her musical work, Lady Gaga is also known for her social commitment. She has always spoken out in favour of the LGBT community; she contributed to the campaign to abrogate the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” law, and at the Rome Europride in 2011 she gave a long talk defending the community and castigating intolerant governments. She has also been active in the struggle against AIDS and HIV, contributing part of her professional earnings to the cause. Her “Born This Way Foundation” helps youngsters fight against lack of self-esteem and bullying.
