Pictures from the Epson calendar 2015

Leading photographer Renato Marcialis’s stunning, food-themed photographs for the 2015 Epson calendar will be on view later this month at Milan’s Urban Centre.

Inspired by Caravaggio’s mould-breaking use of sharp, brilliant play of light on shadowy backgrounds, Marcialis has created still lifes with fruit and vegetables, bread and cheese, to illustrate the theme of Milan’s Expo 2015, Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life.

Born in Venice in 1956, Renato Marcialis opened a studio in 1992 dedicated to the nexus of food and photography, becoming one of the sector’s most authoritative exponents. He has collaborated in over 100 books and countless catalogues and collections of recipes, winning several prestigious prizes.

In his project “Caravaggio in the Kitchen”, Marcialis creates works of art through special treatment of the printed photographs, making them similar to Renaissance oil paintings.

The free exhibition will be open from 09.00 to 18.00 daily.
