21 March-10 June 2012. After a retrospective at New York’s Museum of Modern Art in 2010, the Serbian artist Marina Abramovic returns to Milan with her eagerly awaited new work, entitled The Abramovic Method, especially conceived for PAC Pavilion of Contemporary Art. This monumental, interactive installation was born from the artist’s reflections on the basis of her last three performances, The House With the Ocean View (2002), Seven Easy Pieces (2005) and The Artist is Present (2010), which have never been shown in Italy. Abramovic is particularly interested in the relationship between expressive forms and corporeality and she brings art into contact with physical and emotional experience. The public plays a crucial role in her performances, because the public, guided and prompted by the artist, completes the work of art as for Duchamp.
Abramovic was a pioneer in performing arts in the 1970s and was awarded the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale in 1997. She is considered an icon of every form of expression connected with the body.
