20 September-5 November 2012. This exhibition displays a series of large scale works from the 1980s by the restless Italian artist Mario Schifano (1934-1998).
In that decade Schifano concentrated his attention on nature: landscapes, flowers, lawns and waves are recreated on his canvases, filled with Schifano’s memories, drives and sensations. Famous are his versions of the Botanical Garden and his Water Lilies, which are particularly synthetic and allusive. These works are dominated by shades of green, blue and white. Scifano’s glimpse was capable of catching the nature’s most subtle nuances and its lyricisms, hidden behind the landscape elements.
