26 Nov. Milano21, plus a 10-km. route for amateurs.
The forecast of a cold Sunday with no rain will cheer amateurs and professionals alike as athletes prepare for Milan’s first half-marathon, starting and finishing at Via della Liberazione near Porta Nuova Varesine.
Among the stars in the main event will be Italian national team athletes Daniele Meucci, Valeria Straneo and Sara Dossena, this last back from a spectacular 6th place in the New York marathon.
Places for the main 21-km. official event are now sold out, but enthusiasts can still sign up for the 10-km., non competitive course, either on the event website or in person at the secretariat in Piazza 25 Aprile.
The route will be mainly level, without significant climbs and on good quality surfaces.
The charge of €10 for inscription in the non-competitive run will cover a numbered bib, a chip to activate the start and finish timing, a marathon bag with official gadgets and sponsors’ gifts, snacks and sponges along the course and at the finish line, a medal and certificate for those who complete the course, and medical assistance and insurance.
The 10-km. non-competitive run is open to over-16s who must show a certificate of robust health issued by a medical doctor. It is open to all, including foreigners and non-residents.
Trams and buses running near the marathon routes will be diverted from 08.30 and will gradually return to normal from 12.30, but metro services will be unaffected, says ATM.
